What is a Butterfly Valve
Butterfly valve refers to a valve with a closing part (valve disc or butterfly plate) as a disc, which rotates around the valve axis to achieve opening and closing. It is mainly used for cutting and throttling on the pipeline. The butterfly valve opening and closing part is a disc-shaped butterfly plate that rotates around its own axis in the valve body to achieve the purpose of opening and closing or regulation.
1. Structure of butterfly valve
The butterfly valve is mainly composed of valve body, butterfly plate, valve stem, sealing ring and transmission device. The valve body is cylindrical, with a cylindrical boss on the upper and lower parts for installing the valve stem. The butterfly valve is mostly connected to the pipeline by flange; if the clamp connection is adopted, its structural length is the smallest. ?The valve stem is the rotating shaft of the butterfly plate, and the shaft end adopts a stuffing box sealing structure to prevent the leakage of the medium. The upper end of the valve stem is directly connected to the transmission device to transmit torque. The butterfly plate is the opening and closing part of the butterfly valve. According to the connection type, it can be divided into flange connection and clamp connection; according to the transmission mode, it can be divided into manual, gear transmission, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric.
The angle from full opening to full closing of the butterfly valve is usually less than 90°. The butterfly valve and butterfly stem themselves have no self-locking ability. In order to position the butterfly plate, a worm gear reducer should be installed on the valve stem. The use of a worm gear reducer can not only make the butterfly plate have self-locking ability and stop the butterfly plate at any position, but also improve the operating performance of the valve.
2. Working principle of butterfly valve
The valve disc is a disc. Through the rotation of the valve stem, the valve disc rotates 90° within the range of the valve seat to realize the opening and closing of the valve. It plays a shut-off role in the pipeline. It can also adjust the flow. ??
Advantages of butterfly valve: simple structure, light volume, easy operation, good sealing.
3. Classification of butterfly valves
Butterfly valves can be divided into three eccentric (Triple offset )butterfly valves, high performance butterfly valves (also called double-eccentric butterfly valves), and center-line butterfly valves (also called rubber valve seat butterfly valves) according to the structural form.
According to the sealing form, they can be divided into soft sealing type and hard sealing type (hard sealing butterfly valves are divided into multi-layer sealing butterfly valves and pure metal sealing butterfly valves). Soft sealing type generally uses rubber ring sealing, and hard sealing type usually uses metal ring sealing.
4. Selection principles of butterfly valves
- Since the pressure loss of butterfly valves is relatively large compared with gate valves and ball valves, they are suitable for pipeline systems with less stringent pressure loss requirements.
- Since butterfly valves can be used for flow regulation, they are suitable for pipelines that require flow regulation.
- Due to the limitations of the butterfly valve’s structure and sealing materials, it is not suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure piping systems. The general working temperature is below 300°C and the nominal pressure is below PN40.
- Since the butterfly valve has a relatively short structure length and can be made into a large diameter, it is advisable to use a butterfly valve in situations where the structure length is required to be short or a large-diameter valve (such as DN1000 or above).
- Since the butterfly valve can be opened or closed by rotating only 90°, it is advisable to use a butterfly valve in situations where fast opening and closing are required.
Summary
The butterfly valves markets have been developing rapidly in recent years, and the ranking of butterfly valve suppliers has been changing. When we choose a butterfly valve factory, we need to combine our own needs, such as quality, price, service and other factors, to choose a butterfly valve manufacturer that meets your requirements.
